Estacada boys pick up first league win
The Estacada boys basketball team scored a 53-49 home victory over Corbett to get into the win column in Tri-Valley Conference play Friday night.
The Rangers led start-to-finish and had Corbett doubled up 26-13 at halftime after shooting 60% from the field to start the game.
Niko Snyder sealed the victory by hitting a pair of free throws for a four-point lead with 0:09 left. He finished the night 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the line for a team-high 14 points.
Rookie Dominic Nacoste added 12 rebounds and 10 points for his fifth double-double night of the season, while Nate Hagel and Riley McDonald added eight points apiece off the bench.
"Everyone contributed — it was a team effort to pull out the win," Estacada coach Kyle Gilstad said.
Wrestling team drops pair of duals
The Estacada wrestlers fell 64-12 against 4A powerhouse Tillamook last week. Landin Vittetoe scored a first-round pin at 120 pounds, and Nico Winsor won by fall with 0:28 left in his 220-pound match for Estacada's only points.
The Rangers fell 45-33 to Banks, which gained its winning margin based on having three forfeit wins compared to only one for Estacada.
Sam Garrison won the most competitive bout of the day with a 3-1 decision at 160 pounds, while Vittetoe (120), Rylan Rouske (126) and Jackson Turner (195) all won by first-round pins. Caleb McDonald picked up the Rangers' other win with a second-round fall at 138 pounds.
Cougars roll past Linn-Benton, 73-51
Paige Downer and Kylie Guelsdorf scored 17 points each, pacing Clackamas Community College to a 73-51 Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball home win Saturday over Linn-Benton Community College.
Clackamas' Brooke Bullock added 11 points, 10 rebounds, six assits, and four steals to help the Cougars (17-3, 7-2 South) complete a sweep of their two-game season series with the Roadrunners (15-7, 4-5).
Guelsdorf scored all 17 of her points in the first half as Clackamas raced out to a 46-26 halftime lead.
Amyr Lowe finished with a team-high nine ponts on 3-for-17 shooting from the field for Linn-Benton.
Clackamas Community College's Robert Ford and Clay Sullivan finished with 16 points each to help lift the Cougars to a 70-61 NWAC men's basketball home win Saturday over Linn-Benton at Randall Hall.
Donovan Tafua added six points and a game-high 11 rebounds off the bench for the Cougars (19-2, 8-1 South), who swept the two-game season series with the Roadrunners (9-13, 3-6).
Linn Benton's Kadeem Nelson led all scorers with 20 points, while Kyree Davis added 16 points and six rebounds for the Roadrunners.
Tied at 58-58, Clackamas' Michael Byers scored the go-ahead basket with a lay-up that touched off a 12-3 run over the closing 5:12 to seal the win.
