Rangers qualify 10 for this weekend's state tournament at Memorial Coliseum

Estacada's wrestling team crowned a pair of weight-class champions at last weekend's Regional tournament hosted by North Marion.

Cody Hovda won the 145-pound bracket with an 8-0 shutout over Woodburn's Kaden Christiansen in the finals. He pinned his first two foes in less than a minute and claimed a 17-2 technical fall in the semifinals.

Teammate Devin Gotchall won the heavyweight division, needing only 34 seconds to flatten Astoria's Skylar Smith in the title bout. He also won his opening bout in less than a minute, and scored a 14-4 major decision in the semifinals.

The duo accounted for more than 50 of the Rangers' 239.5 total points, as Estacada finished third out of eight teams. Tillamook won the team title with 402 points.

Estacada got runner-up finishes from Landin Vittetoe (120), Sam Garrison (160) and Nico Winsor (220), while getting third-place victories from Caleb McDonald (138), Kaden Settle (170) and Jackson Turner (195).

The Rangers qualified 10 wrestlers for the 4A state tournament Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29, at Veteran's Memorial Coliseum.
