The medical providers at Maple Street Clinic continue to

support the President's Councilon Sports, Fitness & Nutrition to honor National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. During the month of May, we challenge everyone to achieve the recommendations of the Physical Activity

Guidelines for Americans; which is 30 minutes of physical

activity a day for adults, 60 minutes for children, at least five days a week.

Regular physical activity increases your chances of living

a longer, healthier life. It also reduces your risk of developing several diseases. More importantly, regular activity can improve the quality of life. Yet, according to the CDC, nearly 45 percent of Oregon adults polled do not achieve the recommended weekly amount of physical

activity, and nearly 20 percent engage in no physical activity whatsoever.

Our Challenge to all:

• Aim for 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity at least five days a week. Moderate activity includes things like walking fast, dancing, swimming, and golfing and gardening.

• Do muscle-strengthening activities – like lifting weights or using exercise bands – at least 2 days a week.

Physical activity really is for everyone. No matter your age or shape you are in, you can find an activity that will work for you. Please consult with your medical provider before starting a program.

Together, we can rise to the challenge and get more active

during the month of May and beyond.
