January is a cold, dark month and a hot steamy cup of tea is a good way to warm up from the inside out. Herbal, black or green, all tea is loaded with benefits.

Tea is loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants bond with free radical oxygen atoms that are bashing around the cells in your body, making them stable, well-behaved molecules.

Tea has less caffeine than coffee. Black tea has 50% of the caffeine, green tea even less and herbal blends have none at all. Better for your nervous system, but still a little boost.

Surprisingly, tea is good for your heart health. Studies show that tea drinkers have a 20% less chance of having a heart attack or stroke than non-tea drinkers.

Combined with exercise and a balanced diet, tea can help with weight loss. Tea, on its own, has no calories and it can give you a lift and burn more calories.

Tea strengthens your immune system. Studies show that tea, especially green and chamomile teas, increase immune cell activity.

Drinking tea every day improves your overall health and can make you more resistant to colds and flu, but if you do catch a bug, a soothing herbal tea with ginger and lemon can make you feel better and keep you hydrated. Eucalyptus or mint will help you feel less stuffy and soothe a sore throat.

Mamancy Tea Company has many teas, and Anne is an expert in their use. Stop in and see her soon.
