Create a Cozy Outdoor Living Space
Decide what purpose you want the space to serve, dining, seating, fire pit, BBQ area or entertaining. Think about the size of your space and be realistic with what you can do with it. Sketch it out first (it's easier to erase a few lines than pull up pavers) Think of your exterior space like you would your interior. What do you have as a floor, deck, pavers or concrete? Remember, you can always warm concrete up with an outdoor rug.
What about your ceiling? Is there a pergola in your future? Something as simple as a wind sail might do the trick. What about your walls? Don't rule out the impact of a mural on an old fence. Liven up the chain-link with some lattice. Strategically place trellises and weave a vining plant. Put in some indoor-outdoor curtains.
Now that you have your framework, It's time for the FUN. Place your cornerstone pieces first: dining set, BBQ, fire pit with Adirondack chairs. Now create that indoor appeal: Add mood lighting, a water feature or wall art. Bright and cheery is a great idea, but incorporate some soft and cuddly too.
Remember our ever-changing climate and ask the hard questions. How will this space fare in winds? What's the storage game-plan? How to winterize the water-feature? Where does the rain run-off go? A little thinking ahead will save stress in the long run.
