(KOIN) – An elementary school was placed on lockdown after an intruder broke into a home in Cornelius Friday afternoon and allegedly pointed a gun at the owner.

Sgt. Bob Ray, a Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, reports that the owner came home at about noon to find a stranger inside with a rifle case. The male suspect then reportedly pointed a handgun at the victim before fleeing to a nearby house, located at 571 S. Ivy. Ct.

Deputies responded and searched the second home. They have since taken someone into custody, Ray said. No shots were fired and there were no injuries. The details were not confirmed.

Ray stated that nearby Echo Shaw Elementary School was placed on lockdown. As of 1:30 p.m., the school was still on lockdown.

According to Connie Potter, spokesperson for the Forest Grove School District, Neil Armstrong Middle School and Fern Hill and Cornelius elementary schools were also in lockout.
