A man has been taken into custody in Forest Grove following an eight-hour stand-off with police following what started out as a call of a man with a gun shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Arrested was Gregory Glanville, a 56-year-old transient who listed a previous address in Forest Grove.

Forest Grove Police arrived at K & S Auto Sales, 3821 Pacific Ave., after a witness reportedly observed a man with a gun walk through the parking lot and enter the business. Officers arrived on scene within seconds of the call and learned that a robbery was in progress. Moments later they learned the owner of the business was engaged in a "volatile physical struggle inside" and that shots had been fired by the suspect, said Capt. Mike Herb, spokesman for the police department.

The rounds "reportedly narrowly missed hitting the business owner," Herb added.

Police surrounded the building and called for backup. The business owner, along with a woman and small child, were able to escape the business, leaving the armed suspect inside, according to Herb. Glanville

Members of the Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team responded to the scene and attempted to negotiate Glanville's surrender over several hours. Glanville was still armed and reportedly made threats to kill police and others during the standoff. After attempts to negotiate with Glanville failed, officers deployed chemical agents in an attempt to force him out.

Glanville was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, April 10.

The business owner suffered minor injuries during his struggle with the suspect. The woman and child were not injured. No officers were injured in the incident.

Glanville was lodged at the Washington County Jail in Hillsboro on charges of Attempted Murder, Robbery in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Felon in Possession of Firearm. Glanville will also be lodged on a Deschutes County warrant.
