Rep. Bonamici wants to chat Monday

First District Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici will hold a town hall at Centro Cultural in Cornelius from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31.

It’s one of six town halls she will offer over the next three weeks.

“It’s critical that I hear from my constituents about issues affecting them,” said Bonamici, who will also report on her work back in Washington, D.C.

In addition, if any constituents are having trouble dealing with a federal agency, Bonamici’s staff will be on hand to meet with them individually. The congresswoman’s schedule can be viewed online at bonamici.house.gov/events.

You can audition to play the part of a pioneer

Ever had a notion to play the part of a Forest Grove pioneer? Your chance is coming Sunday and Monday.

Auditions for character roles for the inaugural Friends of Historic Forest Grove Cemetery Tour — “Grave Matters,” set for Oct. 3 — will be held Aug. 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. and Aug. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Old Train Station, 1936 19th Ave.

The group is casting four men, three women and a female teenager to augment “Grave Matters,” a living history guided walking tour at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. A script will be provided on the day of the audition, said Cherie Savoie Tintary of FHFG.

Argus to cease weekend publication

The Hillsboro Argus, the city’s oldest newspaper, is publishing its final weekend edition this Friday. Representatives of the twice-weekly paper, owned and operated by Advance Publications (the same company that owns The Oregonian), have told advertisers that the Aug. 28 paper will be the last Friday edition produced. The Friday edition had been sent to subscribers and sold on news stands. Advertisers were told that the Wednesday edition of the Argus, which became a free mass-distribution paper in 2013, will continue to publish.
