Volunteers who spruce up town Saturday, May 20, will get free donuts, coffee, hot dogs

NEWS-TIMES FILE PHOTO - A mom and her two children help clean up the railroad corridor running through Cornelius during a previous Take Care of Cornelius Day cleanup drive.This Saturday, May 20, an army of volunteers armed with gloves and trash bags will spread through Cornelius neighborhoods to participate on the sixth annual "Take Care of Cornelius" clean-up day.

Last year, participants filled several large dumpsters with trash collected from streets, railroad corridors and public areas. They also planted flowers and spread bark dust.

Volunteers will meet in the Cornelius Fred Meyer parking lot at 8:30 a.m. to receive their assignments (and gloves) while enjoying free donuts from Fred Meyer and free coffee from Human Bean Coffee.

After finishing their work assignments at noon, volunteers will gather at Harleman Park, located at Tenth Avenue and Heather Street, where the Cornelius Fire Department will serve free hot dogs and salad.

Sponsors and donors include Cornelius Disposal Service, Cornelius Fred Meyer, Wilco Farm Store, Sonic Drive-In, Fastenal, Human Bean Coffee, Reser's Fine Foods, Portland & Western Railroad, Gratteri's Tire Service, SOLVE, Metro, Washington County and the City of Cornelius.
