'Little House on the Prairie' character will be profiled on Saturday's cemetery tour in Forest Grove

COURTESY PHOTO - Ron Hansen plays Harley S. McDonald in Saturday's 'Grave Matters' tour.Fans of "Little House on the Prairie" might want to visit the Forest View Cemetery Saturday, Oct. 7, because the "real" Nellie Olsen (actual name: Nellie Owens Kirry) will be telling her story.

Nellie is one of nine western Washington County pioneers who will rise from their graves (through local actors) when Friends of Historic Forest Grove presents "Grave Matters," a living-history tour of the cemetery.

The event takes place Saturday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 6 p.m. Ticket-holders will meet at Tom McCall Upper Elementary School and walk to the cemetery. Tours run every 20 minutes.

A limited number of tickets are available online at and at Corner Antiques & Collectibles, 2019 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove.

In addition to Nellie, who lived from 1869-1949 and worked as a teacher, the tour will introduce:

  • Harry A. Crosley (1866-1953), photographer
  • Harley S. McDonald (1825-1902), architect
  • Dorothy Higby Seymour (1871-1972), business woman
  • Carrie Crosley Minckley (1867-1952), operated Travelers Home boarding house
  • Manche Langley (1883-1963), attorney
  • John Bailey (1845-1936), Vice President of Forest Grove National Bank
  • Martha Lot, Indian Training School student (1881)
  • Eliza Marsh (1841-1906), wife of Rev. Sidney Harper Marsh
