COURTESY - Visitors check out an exhibit at the Tillamook Forest Center. The Oregon Department of Forestry is responsible for maintaining healthy forestlands across Oregon. Now, looking to spruce up one of its local facilities, it's asking the public for some help.

A "winter cleaning party" is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Tillamook Forest Center west of Banks. The ODF hopes people will pitch in, as "many hands make light work."

Tasks will include cleaning exhibits, tagging items in the gift shop and making general improvements around the facility, preparing it for the 2018 season.

No prior training is required, although the department requires volunteers to be able to follow directions, bend down and lift items that weigh at least 10 pounds, as well as to be age 12 or older. Volunteers should also wear comfortable clothing to the work party.

Refreshments will be provided, although volunteers are welcome to bring a sack lunch.

Registration is required. Participants can register by calling 503-815-6803 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Space is limited.

The work party runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 10.

The Tillamook Forest Center is located at 45500 Wilson River Highway in the Tillamook State Forest. It is closed to visitors from December through February, reopening March 1.
