Forest Grove police say investigating 'suspicious death'
The Forest Grove Police Department said it is investigating the "suspicious death" of a 54-year-old woman in the 2100 block of Hawthorne Street.
Police officers reportedly conducted a welfare check on the apartment of Cynthia Belton at about 4:15 a.m. Monday, March 19. They discovered Belton dead in her apartment.
Detectives are investigating the incident and treating it as a suspicious death, according to police.
Forest Grove police are being assisted in the investigation by the Washington County Major Crimes Team and Oregon State Police Forensics. Sgt. Michael Hall, a spokesman for the Forest Grove Police Department, said those assets are called in to assist with all suspicious-death investigations in Forest Grove.
"We always err on the side of caution," said Hall.
Hall responded in the negative when asked if police are currently investigating the death as a homicide.
"We don't know the circumstances," he said, adding, "We're going to investigate it thoroughly."
Police have not released any information on the cause of death.
Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Forest Grove Police Department at 503-992-3260.
