Police investigating 'suspicious death' as homicide
The Forest Grove Police Department now believes a "suspicious death" under investigation since Monday, March 19, was "the result of homicidal violence," the department announced Wednesday, April 11.
Police officers found 54-year-old Cynthia Lou Belton dead in her apartment in the 2100 block of Hawthorne Street in Forest Grove after performing a welfare check on March 19. At the time, police said Belton had not been seen for a few days.
Investigators have found evidence that Belton's death was a homicide, police said Wednesday. No arrests have been made in the case, and no further details have been released in the ongoing investigation.
"The investigators are following many different potential leads for suspects," said Capt. Michael Hall, a spokesman for the Forest Grove Police Department.
Asked whether there is any danger to the public, Hall responded, "We don't believe so at this time."
Hall said he was unable to provide any information on the cause of death.
Police are actively seeking information from anyone who might know anything about Belton or her death. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 503-992-3260 or 503-629-0111.
