The suspect is wanted for a stolen vehicle incident, and several Cornelius schools were placed in lockout during the search.

Omar Aparicio-Mendoza Washington County sheriff's deputies in Cornelius have arrested a man believed to have stolen a golf cart from an area business on Sunday.

Omar Aparicio-Mendoza was arrested Wednesday, May 9, near North Holladay Street and Seventh Court, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies spent Wednesday morning searching in the 1200 block of South Cherry Street for the man.

Aparicio-Mendoza allegedly stole a golf cart from New Leaf Greenhouse on Sunday, May 6. Sheriff's Office spokesman Det. Robert Rookhuyzen said the man ran from deputies when confronted Wednesday morning.

"Deputies were able to determine that Omar was one of two suspects, so they went out today to arrest him ... and he ran which is what started today's (search)," said Sheriff's Office spokesman Det. Robert Rookhuyzen. "We've already arrested the other (suspect)."

A Beaverton Police K-9 joined with deputies in Cornelius in the search efforts along with 16 police units assigned to the call, Rookhuyzen said.

Both Echo Shaw Elementary School and Free Orchards Elementary School were placed in lockout for about 35 minutes while law enforcement searched the area.

The schools have since lifted the lockout, Rookhuyzen said.
