Orenco Elementary School students were at it again this year, jogging to raise money for their school.
More than 650 students ran, jogged and walked around a small course in which each lap was one-eighth of a mile. Students ran for 30 minutes to try to raise as much money from their donors as possible. One sixth-grader ran 33 laps, or a little over four miles, in that 30-minute span.
Last year, students raised $53,000 for Orenco. This year's goal of $40,000 is the same as last year's.
Money raised for this jog-a-thon goes towards technology and classroom enhancements.
In the last few years, the Orenco Boosters club have made major investments in technology from fundraising programs such as this event. Now that the new Hillsboro School District bond has passed, additional funds can go to more advanced technology needs, since the basic needs have already been met.
