Last week, she officially opened Daniela's on Main in downtown Forest Grove.Downtown Forest Grove is home to another new business, Daniela's on Main, a gift and bath and body shop with knickknacks and "something for everybody."

Longtime Forest Grove resident Daniela Powell has dreamed of opening up a store since she was a kid, she said, and she finally did it this week.

"I was in New York when I was like 24 or 25, and I saw this boutique and it said 'Daniela's' on it, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, there's my store,'" Powell said. "So 25 years ago, I saw that and was like, 'Wow, this is really cool.' And I (finally) decided to do this."

Daniela's sells bath and body products, candles, jewelry, handbags, cards, magnets, perfume, stuffed animals, and many other items perfect for a gift. Powell hopes to eventually transition into selling clothing and apparel at her store as well.

"(There is) something for everybody here, for sure," she said.

Powell said she has worked in retail for most of her life, studying merchandising management at Oregon State University, working as a general manager for Old Navy for many years, and most recently working as an apparel buyer and sales associate for a boutique in Sellwood-Moreland, a neighborhood in Southeast Portland. After commuting over an hour each way to Sellwood daily, Powell's commute is now just five minutes.

Powell grew up in Forest Grove, where she attended middle and high school, before heading to Corvallis for college and eventually living in Portland for some time. But 13 years ago, she moved back to her hometown of Forest Grove and has been here since, she said.

"The Forest Grove community is great, and Main Street is killer," Powell said. "All the new restaurants and everything that's happening … is awesome."

Earlier this year, she began noticing a few vacant storefronts along Main Street and decided it was time for her to pursue her dream.

Powell said that adding new shops and restaurants to downtown Forest Grove really helps the small but growing city shine.

"I feel like the more stores we have here and restaurants we have here, it becomes a destination, not just a place that you walk past," she said. "So I think if there's more boutiques opening up, that would be awesome, and more restaurants opening up, anything like that."

Powell held a week-long soft opening prior to officially opening on Wednesday, July 4.

"I think so far everybody that's been in here absolutely loves it, and they're excited to see something like this in Forest Grove," she said. "And that's not to exclude anybody else that's already here, it's just saying it's a little bit different."

While the official schedule is to be determined, Powell said Daniela's will likely be open either Monday through Saturday or Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
