American Legion Post #2 adjutant Jim Craigg said 233 American flags were collected and "properly disposed of" — more than the 150 to 200 he said are typically turned in at the annual event.

The post collects flags year-round, allowing people to dispose of tattered, soiled or otherwise unusable American flags in a respectful and appropriate way. Craigg said flags can be placed in a slot by the front door or given to American Legion members to hold for later disposal.

The American Legion Post #2 is located at 2003 19th Ave. in Forest Grove.
