The City of Cornelius, the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Centro Cultural de Washington County are putting on the fifth annual Thanksgiving meal, together with a number of local businesses and other organizations. The dinner will be hosted by Cornelius Elementary School at 200 N. 14th Ave.

Dinner is served from 4 to 7 p.m., including both a traditional turkey dinner and Mexican-style tamales.

"This is an event that is built on cooperation and compassion from our business and community partners," Cornelius Police Chief Al Roque said in a statement. "Sharing a meal is a great way to kick off the holiday season with outreach and support for our residents."

Maria Caballero Rubio, executive director of Centro Cultural, added that her nonprofit group is "proud to partner" with other local entities for the Thanksgiving dinner.

"Our partnership grows stronger every year as we support each other's efforts," Caballero Rubio stated.

More than 400 people are expected for the community meal. All are welcome.

Other event sponsors include the Forest Grove School District, Swallowtail Waldorf School, the Western Washington County Firefighters Association, the Washington County Police Officers Association, Reser's Fine Foods, Fred Meyer and Walmart, among others.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help out with the event can contact the City of Cornelius at 503-357-9112.
