A total of $220,000 was given out in grant money to organizations "focused on culturally specific or trauma-informed services in health care, education, and social services," according to the Tuesday, Nov. 27, annoucement. Locally, Adelante Mujeres and Virginia Memorial Health Center were awarded.

"Almost half of the children born in Oregon are born into the Oregon Health Plan," said CareOregon's Chief of Staff Jeremiah Rigsby in a release. "As CareOregon provides the OHP to almost 250,000 Oregonians, we have committed to addressing the needs of our kids and young families in innovative ways."

The six organizations to receive grants provide healthcare, education and social services, the release stated.

Adelante Mujeres, a nonprofit organization based in Forest Grove that provides holistic education and empowerment opportunities to low-income Latina women and their families, received $45,000 for its trauma-informed early childhood education program for low-income Latino children.

"Adelante Mujeres' Early Childhood Education Program is a bilingual program that teaches early literacy skills and builds kindergarten readiness among Latino immigrant preschool aged children in Washington County," the release stated. "Funds will provide expanded early childhood services in Adelante Mujeres' new facility in Forest Grove."
