The single-vehicle crash reportedly occurred at the west end of the Dennis L. Edwards Tunnel.

A motorist was killed in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 26 in far northwestern Washington County Thursday afternoon, Jan. 24, authorities said.

Brian Glover, a 52-year-old Lake Oswego resident, died at the scene after his eastbound 2017 BMW X1 apparently left the roadway and struck a stone embankment at the west entrance of the Dennis L. Edwards Tunnel near Timber, west of the Highway 47 turnoff toward Vernonia, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The Banks Fire District said it responded to the incident at 1:58 p.m. Thursday.

The fire district credited passersby who stopped and assisted at the scene, lauding their "heroic efforts" before first responders arrived.

The crash remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Highway 26 was closed through the area for about three hours following the crash.
