Forest Grove firefighters investigating Monday morning blaze
Firefighters in Forest Grove have tamped down a house fire near Filbert Street and 21st Avenue.
According to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, crews were called to the home in the 2000 block of Filbert Street at about 5:45 a.m., May 13. Firefighters found the house, carport, shed and multiple trees engulfed with flames.
Firefighters from Forest Grove, the Cornelius Fire Department, Gaston Fire District, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue and Banks Fire District kept the blaze from spreading to nearby homes, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue spokesman Matt Johnston said.
Johnston said the house was vacant at the time of the fire.
It took about a half-hour of aggressive action to knock down most of the flames, Johnston said. It took another hour and a half to put out any hot spots that remained, both inside the home and in the carport and shed. Twenty-seven firefighters responded to the call.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but Johnston said may have been started by transients in the area.
