Across the county, groups are preparing tributes in observance of Memorial Day.

Whether you're in Hillsboro, Banks or Forest Grove, there's plenty to see and do this Memorial Day. The federal holiday pays tribute to those who died serving in the U.S. military, and several groups will gather on Monday, May 27, to show their respect:

The American Legion Post 90 will host an event at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, at Union Point Cemetery on Northwest Banks Road, with a presentation of colors and a speech from a local pastor. The ceremony will close with a rifle salute and taps.

The Beaverton American Legion Post No. 124 will host an event in the Beaverton Veterans Memorial Park located on Seventh Street and Watson Avenue.

The event begins at 11 a.m. May 27 and includes music, flyovers by the Oregon Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing and the West Coast Ravens, a POW/MIA ceremony, Howitzer salute and special guests Army National Guard Capt. Ian Beaty, American Legion Oregon Department Cmdr. Tom Harris, Washington County Chairwoman Kathryn Harrington, Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs Director Kelly Fitzpatrick, and keynote speaker Brig. Gen. William J. Prendergast, with the Army National Guard.

Attendees are asked to come early. Live music begins at 10 a.m.

Forest Grove:

The American Legion Washington Post No. 2 and Oregon Army National Guard in Forest Grove are sponsoring a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 27 at Forest View Cemetery, 1611 W. Pacific Ave., in Forest Grove. The event will include speaker Lt. Col. Eric Brenner, with the National Guard, as well as performances by the Scott Pipe Band and the Tom McCall Upper Elementary School choir.

Hillsboro's American Legion Post 6, the Hillsboro Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2666 and the Washington County Department of Disability, Aging and Veteran Services invite the public to a Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Veterans Memorial Gateway, at the corner of Northeast 34th Avenue and Veterans Drive in Hillsboro.

This year's ceremony will honor the American Legion's 100th anniversary and is set to include special guest Tom Harris, Oregon department commander with the American Legion.

In addition to honoring the sacrifices made in service to the United States, the ceremony will pay respect to widows of Vietnam-era veterans.

The event is rain or shine, with covered seating available. Attendees may park in TriMet's lot at the Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport station.
