Cornelius takes victory lap after winning national award
Last month, Cornelius was named as one of 10 All-America Cities by the National Civic League.
What better way to celebrate than with ice cream?
City officials will join members of the community for an ice cream social at Harleman Park, at the corner of South 10th Avenue and Heather Street, from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
Immediately following the ice cream social, Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts will perform a free concert at Harleman Park.
Mayor Jef Dalin will give a formal presentation and remarks at 4:30 p.m.
"We are extremely proud of the positive and effective partnerships that have been formed in our community," Dalin said in a statement.
Out of more than 500 applicants from across the United States, Cornelius was chosen as an All-America City for its revitalization efforts — including the 2014 dissolution of the troubled Cornelius Police Department, the recent construction of a mixed-use library and affordable housing complex, downtown planning, and community outreach.
