Officials say if you place your ballot envelope in the mail today or later, it's too late.

PMG PHOTO: JONATHAN HOUSE - Volunteers count ballots last year at the Washington County Elections Office.Election Day in Oregon is Tuesday, Nov. 5, with a Metro bond and, in some jurisdictions, several local measures and races riding on the outcome.

If you've already filled in your ballot, placed it inside the return envelope, signed the back of the envelope, affixed a stamp — for the last time, since starting next year, paid postage on ballot envelopes won't be required under state law — and put it in the mail, good for you. As long as your ballot was mailed Thursday, Oct. 31, or earlier, it's virtually guaranteed to get to the elections office in time for it to be counted.

But if your ballot is still folded up on your kitchen counter or coffee table, or the envelope is still sitting on your passenger seat after you forget to swing by the mailbox earlier this week, you should find an official drop site near you to ensure your vote will count.
