The US Fish and Wildlife Service had a controlled brush fire at Gaston's Wapato Lake NWR on Thursday.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service used federal and state firefighters on Thursday for a controlled burn on a quarter mile section of a dike at the Wapato Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Gaston. This burn was a test to see how well the invasive species of plants that have grown along the dike will burn. If successfull, the USFWS plans to burn along the entire 5 mile perimeter of the refuge.
