Reimann will begin his new role on Monday, Feb. 3.

He brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience with him to the department, having most recently served as a lieutenant with the Hillsboro Police Department. Reimann has also served as interim chief of police in both Scappoose and Cornelius.

"Interim Chief Reimann brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and knowledge to the profession and position," said City Manager Jesse VanderZanden in a statement. "He's a proven leader during times of transition and I look forward to him leading our Police Department in the interim."

Reimann said in a statement it is an honor and a privilege to join the Forest Grove community.

"I understand that this is a time of transition and FGPD provides outstanding service to the community," Reimann said. "Their dedication and service should be at the forefront of all our conversations. I see my job as being the advocate for the men and women who serve the Forest Grove community and will continue to enhance the relationship that FGPD has with the community. I am very fortunate to be able to work with staff that understands the value of teamwork."

The selection comes after former Police Chief Janie Schutz retired on Jan. 9. The city has for weeks declined to answer questions about the circumstances behind Schutz's abrupt retirement.

Reimann will assist in the process of hiring a permanent police chief. The city estimates the process will take four to six months and will involve a nationwide search.

Schutz came to Forest Grove from a smaller city in North Carolina in 2012, where she had also served as chief.
