Washington County confirms ID of remains as Allyson Watterson
Human remains discovered last weekend in the North Plains area have been confirmed to belong to Allyson Watterson.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the county medical examiner was able to identify the remains as Watterson, 20, who had been reported missing in the area Dec. 23, 2019.
Watterson, a Hillsboro resident, was last seen walking with her boyfriend, Benjamin Garland, along Northwest Old Pumpkin Ridge Road on Dec. 22. She was reported missing the following day.
An extensive multi-agency search of the area was not successful in locating Watterson.
Some of Watterson's personal belongings were found near Pumpkin Ridge Road in late February.
Last Saturday, June 20, a property-owner in the 15800 block of Northwest Corey Road called to report finding what he believed to be human remains while clearing brush, the Sheriff's Office said.
At the time, the Sheriff's Office told media that investigators believed the remains were those of Watterson. However, the medical examiner was needed to positively identify the body.
The examiner was not able to determine a final cause of death, the Sheriff's Office said Friday.
The case remains open.
Garland, Watterson's boyfriend, is currently serving time in prison for unrelated crimes.
