The city tentatively schedules re-opening for Oct. 5, while parks and shelters were scheduled to begin opening Sept. 10.

Forest Grove has received new guidance from the state of Oregon that swimming pools, along with shelters and playgrounds, may reopen in Phase 1. This is a change from prior guidance, which previously only allowed such facilities to open in Phase 2.

Plans are being finalized to reopen the aquatic center following protocols including: restarting water treatment systems, filling the pools, identifying available staff members in the wake of furloughs, finalizing a revised pool schedule and hiring two critical staff members.

The shelters and playgrounds were set to open beginning Thursday, Sept. 10. Appropriate and required signage is being placed at or near the facilities in an effort to remind users to observe social distancing.

The Oregon Health Authority is still requiring limits on group sizes per Phase 1 restrictions and as a result, a limited number of picnic tables will be available for use at each shelter.

The city is not currently accepting reservations for groups wanting to use the shelters.

Forest Grove began opening city buildings and facilities June 1 as part of Washington County's Phase 1 re-opening plan, and the city has been slowly continuing the process in conjunction with the state's restrictions.

Questions regarding scheduled re-openings should be directed to Tom Gamble, Forest Grove's director of parks and recreation, at 503-992-3238 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
