Forest Grove fire leaves eight occupants without home
No one was injured, but eight Forest Grove residents were displaced following a fire Thursday night, Oct. 15, at the Rose Grove Mobile Home Community at the east end of Forest Grove.
Forest Grove Fire and Rescue responded to the reported house fire at the park, located at 3839 Pacific Avenue at 5:50 p.m., following multiple 911 calls. Crews arrived shortly later to find smoke coming from the structure with all occupants evacuated.
"When we arrived it was fully confined to the wall, thankfully," Johnston said. "There was a lot of smoke and once we were able to locate the fire itself, we were able to keep it from spreading."
According to Johnston, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the primary source of the fire. As they proceeded to usher out the smoke, crews checked for hotspots in adjoining rooms and under the structure. In all, it took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the fire and all spots of concern.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appeared to be isolated to electrical wiring in the wall.
"There was a lot of burn and a lot of charging around an electrical outlet, then it burned it's way from there," Johnston said. "It wasn't external like an overloaded power strip or anything, or an external wire break that caught fire to the carpet or anything. All internal."
The fire caused both water and smoke damage throughout the structure, as well as damaging the electrical system, which was forced to be turned off to avoid perpetuating the event. Due to the damage, the home's eight occupants cannot return to the house until appropriate repairs can be made.
No one – including the occupants nor firefighters on the scene – was injured during the fire, and the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.
A fire alarm was triggered as a result of the fire, but Forest Grove Fire and Rescue wanted to stress the importance of having working smoke alarms in one's house, and suggested one in each bedroom, one beyond the sleeping areas, and a minimum of one on each floor.
FGFR were assisted on the scene by the Cornelius Fire Department, Gaston Fire District, Banks Fire District, Forest Grove Police, Forest Grove Light & Power, and Metro West Ambulance.
