Pamplin Media Group newspapers received more than 100 awards in this year's contests.

FILE - The News-Times of Forest Grove and Hillsboro won multiple awards for its work in 2020.Pamplin Media Group newspapers throughout Oregon took home 102 awards from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association and National Newspaper Association contests this month.

Among those awards: 11 for the News-Times, part of a combined haul of 23 awards for Pamplin Media's newspapers in Washington County alone.

The News-Times placed third in its class for general excellence, a coveted and highly competitive annual honor, for its body of work in 2020.

Reporter Max Egener won three first-place awards for his writing, including for Best Enterprise Reporting with his coverage of Cornelius residents' concerns about the safety of their groundwater last year; Best Feature (Personality) with his story on Celeste Goulding, who experienced homelessness and substance abuse on her road to becoming an advocate for Washington County's unhoused community; and Best Educational Coverage with his reporting on how Hillsboro teachers worked to connect with students and promote social-emotional learning while schools were closed last year.

The News-Times also received first-place honors for its editorials, which challenged Metro's approach to crafting money measures in 2020, urged Gov. Kate Brown and President Donald Trump to provide clear and consistent leadership in the early weeks of the coronavirus crisis, and highlighted the role of peaceful protests in pushing for social change after the murder of George Floyd.

The News-Times was also awarded for its headline writing, spot news coverage, news photography and more.

Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association awards are judged by the News-Times' peers in print media. This year's contests were judged by members of the Arizona Newspapers Association.
