Joy Harjo will address the Pacific community on Thursday as part of a visiting writers series.

The award-winning poet, memoirist and saxophonist is the 23rd national poet laureate, as well as the first Native American to hold the title.

Harjo, who is from Muscogee Nation in modern-day Oklahoma, is also only the second poet laureate to serve three terms.

This year, she released both an album titled "I Pray For My Enemies" and a memoir titled "Poet Warrior."
