The Forest Grove City Council unanimously passed a resolution at its Monday, May 9, meeting that will take advantage of available state department of environmental quality funding to incentivize Forest Grovers to ditch the gas pump. City funds and tax revenue will not be used for the program.

"It's so exciting. You all are doing such great work. I think it's really moving Forest Grove in the right direction," Council President Malynda Wenzl told Light & Power representatives. "It's well-balanced, creates options and is really good with sustainability."

The rebate will be available to all prior and future purchases for residential and commercial chargers. According to Forest Grove Light & Power, there are currently 269 electric vehicles registered within its coverage area, and across 12 public charging stations operated by the utility, usage has increased sharply from 484 kilowatts in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 4,665 kilowatts in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Forest Grove Light & Power expects to place information about the incentive program on the city's website in both English and Spanish by May 23.
