In late September, a large oak tree fell in front of the playground swings in Anna & Abby's Yard, a nature-themed play area, causing $8,000 worth of damage to the surface.

"The tree fell on the artificial turf in front of the swings. Underneath that artificial turf is a pretty significant layer of safety surfacing, foam and different layers of subsurface," parks and recreation director Anne Lane said. "It punctured and ripped all that."

Nobody was injured by the tree, which was chainsawed by by Forest Grove Light & Power and parks maintenance and hauled away within hours of it falling Sept. 28.

The swings had to be removed while the surface was repaired Oct. 25 and Oct. 26. COURTESY PHOTO: FOREST GROVE PARKS & RECREATION - The swings at Rogers Park are open again.

Anna & Abby's Yard is named for Anna Dieter-Eckert and Abigail Robinson, two girls who died in 2013. The play area was dedicated in December 2020 with a plaque in their memory.
