Next Wednesday brings another First Wednesday celebration to Forest Grove with art receptions, local authors and special activities at the farmers market.

Summa Real Estate, 2012 Main St., will host a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 for Portland artist Liz Walker, who will display more than a dozen of her paintings. Walker employs the use of acrylic marbling in her paintings and has been experimenting with this medium for more than seven years — creating her own modern version of an artistic practice (called ebru marbling) that dates back to the Ottoman empire. By swirling the color into finely detailed patterns, Walker achieves a visual effect that is not easily replicated.

A Framer’s Touch, 1920 21st Ave., will also host an evening reception for artist Kelly McTimmonds.

September’s First Wednesday theme is Sweet Words, which invites local authors to read around town, including at Summa from 5 to 6 p.m. Diana Kay Lubarsky, Gretchen Keefer, Susan Schmidlin, Tim Applegate, Rosemary Lombard and Fred Melden will read at Summa.

From 6 to 7 p.m., Periscope Books & Tutoring, 1920 Pacific Ave., will host Sue Parman, Ken Bilderback, MaryJane Nordgren, Mary Slocum, Brad Cameron and Stephanie Johnson.

The Forest Grove Leader, 2030 Main St., will host Karen R. Hessen, Joni Sauer-Folger, Tonya Macalino, Joe Schrader, Michelle Winter and Marcia Coffey Turnquist.

Wine from Plum Hill Winery, Urban Decanter and Willamette Valley Vineyards will mark the event.

Pacific University will host a block party on 21st Avenue during the farmers market, which runs from 4 to 8 p.m. downtown There will be games, activities, prize raffles, a rock climbing wall, free shirts and live music from the band World’s Finest.
