Hillsboro film series moves to local parks in August with screening of 'Song of the Sea.'

COURTESY - Hillsboros popular Pix in the Plaza film series has a new name, screening Song of the Sea at Magnolia Park on Aug. 3Hillsboro's annual outdoor movie nights will be in a new home — and feature a new name — when the 2018 series kicks off next month.

Instead of its usual home outside the Hillsboro Civic Center in downtown, the free Pix in the Plaza movie series will move to a handful of local parks, offering free family-friendly movie screenings each Friday evening in August.

Now known as Pix in the Park, the series will travel to a handful of area parks.

The annual family-friendly film series kicks off Aug. 3, with "Song of the Sea" at Magnolia Park, 1810 N.W. 192nd Ave.

A week later, on Aug. 10, a Spanish version of the Pixar film "Coco" will be screened at Shute Park, 750 S.E. Eighth Ave.

"Paranorman," an animated film by Hillsboro animation studio Laika, will be screened Aug. 17 at Ron Tonkin Field, 4460 N.E. Century Blvd.

The series wraps up Aug. 23 at Orenco Woods Nature Park with the Disney film "A Wrinkle in Time." Orenco Woods Nature Park is located at 7100 N.E. Birch St.

Each of the films will be preceded by live musical performances and light concessions at 7 p.m. The screenings begin at dusk.

For years, the concert series has been hosted by the city's Water Department, but Hillsboro's Parks & Recreation Department will take over the event this year.
