The rural community south of Hillsboro will be marking its sixth annual celebration put on by the Laurel Community Church this Saturday, Aug. 18. Area residents are invited to join in for Laurel Day at 14127 S.W. Campbell Road.

Laurel Day includes a classic car and truck show, a DJ, a farmers' market, kids' games, and a pie-baking competition. The past few years, a truck and firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue came out and let kids at the event spray the firehose.

New at the event this year will be a bouncy house, face painter and balloon maker.

After the farmers' market, car and truck show, and other events from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Laurel Day will conclude with a family potluck from 5 to 9 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring a dinner dish to enjoy with fellow community members.

Laurel Day began six years ago as a coordinated effort between a group called the Ladies of Laurel and Laurel Community Church. At first the event was just a walk/run/bike event. The farmers' market and classic car cruise-in were added in 2016.

"We were trying to find a way to be relevant in our community," Kim Lillegard, an administrator from the church, said.

Over 500 people came out to the event last year, which Lillegard said has grown greatly over the past six years.

Laurel Community Church is accessible from Hillsboro Highway via either Bald Peak or Laurel roads, both of which intersect with Campbell Road, on which the church is located.
