Bag&Baggage stages play for young adults
Last weekend, Hillsboro's Bag&Baggage Productions premiered "The Helpful Little Fox," a play created for young audiences. The play is the final work of the four members of the company's Emerging Artists program, punctuating their nine-month apprenticeship with Bag&Baggage.
Artistic Director and head of the Emerging Artist program, Cassie Greer said, "Our Emerging Artists have done a phenomenal job crafting this story and designing all of the theatrical elements. Our audiences have spent all season witnessing their work behind the scenes, and I'm so glad they finally have the chance to see these fine young artists in the spotlight."
The play, written by Olivia Anderson, uses characters from several tales in the classic "Grimm's Fairy Tales" to create a new, original tale in which a cunning Fox, played by Emerging Artist Jurnee Neeko, learns the values of loyalty, honesty and kindness. The play is set in the Grimm's Forest, designed by Emerging Artist Kai Hennig, and follows the Fox who embarks on a written by Olivia Anderson, uses a curse upon him for his deceptive ways.
Emerging Artist Darwin Pringle, who plays several characters in addition to designing the play's lighting and projections said, "The most exciting thing for me about this project is taking the stories that people — myself included — have grown up with their entire lives, throwing them into this amazing modern machine, and coming out with better lessons, friendlier characters, and a brand new story for the next generation to grow up with."
Don't miss the play's
final performances this Friday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m. Tickets are free for children under age 3 and $5 for everyone 3 and older. For more information about the play visit bagnbaggage.org.
