Classic opera geared to introduce youth to the artform is coming to Hillsboro's Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center.
Portland Opera To Go will perform an adaptation of "La Bohème." The story focuses on four young men whose lives are changed forever when one of them — Rodolfo — falls in love with the girl upstairs. Created by Giacomo Puccini in 1895, the opera remains popular more than 120 years later.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, Portland Opera will showcase the 50-minute English language performance, followed by a meet and greet at the center, located at 527 E. Main St. Doors open at 1 p.m. with a 2 p.m. show time. The program is recommended for ages 12 and above and admission is a suggested $5 donation.
Five years ago, Portland Opera and the Walters decided to bring educational programming to Hillsboro, with shows reaching capacity, which is about 200 people in the space. To learn more, visit portlandopera.org/pogo-2019 .
