Dogs of Hillsboro Celebrates Photo Contest
The Dogs of Downtown Hillsboro is showing off some furry friends in the community.
From 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, the group will host a 2020 Dogs of Hillsboro Calendar launch party, hosted at Primrose & Tumbleweeds, at 248 E. Main St.
Note: Dogs are not allowed at the restaurant and should be left at home.
Last summer, the Dogs of Hillsboro held an online photo contest allowing people to upload photos of their pet and share them on social media. People then voted for their favorite pup at $1 per vote.
"It was really competitive," said Annette Cornish with the Dogs of Hillsboro. "The top two dogs raised over $1,000 each."
The entire contest raised over $11,200 for the Bonnie L. Hays Animal Shelter in Hillsboro. The top 13 dogs then received a complimentary photo shoot by local photographer Danyel Rogers of Wag to My Heart Studio.
Cornish hopes the calendar can raise more money for the shelter.
"(Dogs) add to our lives, and I know that all dogs aren't as lucky to find homes," Cornish said. "They're vulnerable in our society — animals can be vulnerable. So, they need our help."
The calendars will be revealed at the launch party and are $20 each. All of the proceeds, after cost, will be donated to the animal shelter.
The event also will include a raffle, prizes and food and beverages for purchase.
After the launch party, the calendars will be available at Primrose & Tumbleweeds and the Puppernickle dog bakery located at 131 S.E. Third Ave. in Hillsboro.
