Tommy Thayer, whose roots run deep in the Portland area, has been the lead guitarist for legendary band KISS for 20 years.
He continues to be active in various activities in the Portland area. A graduate of Sunset High School in Beaverton, he has long been a Pacific University trustee.
Thayer, founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley and drummer Eric Singer are playing shows on their "End of the Road Tour," which Thayer talked about with the Tribune earlier this year.

On the side, Thayer has another endeavor. He has signed on with the Gibson guitar app to teach how to play KISS song solos. There are four solos currently being taught in the video-guided lessons: "Black Diamond," "Detroit Rock City," "Shout It Out Loud," "Psycho Circus."
There are interactive lessons, songs and guides on the Gibson app. It's available to download on the Apple Store and elsewhere.
