March 2, 1925-April 7, 2014

HalvorsonTeola Bernice Halvorson was born on March 2, 1925 in Eugene, Oregon, daughter of Darrell P. Perkins and Myrtle May (Jones) Perkins.

She grew up in Gaston, Oregon, graduating from Gaston High School in 1942. In third grade the teacher took notice of Teola’s math skills and decided she should do third and fourth grade together, resulting in early graduation.

Teola said “Probably the happiest day of my life was the day I married Richard (Dick) Williams.” They were married June 21, 1942. Dick and Teola had two boys, Allen and Lynn. They built a home in Gaston, doing most of the work themselves. This was where all their dreams would come true. After 8 ½ years of marriage Dick died in a car accident while on a hunting trip.

Three years after Dick died, Teola married Junior Jimmie Matlock. This marriage added two little boys to Teola’s family, Dan and Lee, then finally a daughter, Vicki was born to them. This marriage ended in divorce after 25 years.

Teola married Frank Paolo on December 4, 1978. One wonderful perk, was she gained another daughter, Sue and a son, Denny. Teola and Frank traveled and spent winters in Quartsite, Arizona. There they enjoyed many friends, dancing and music jams. After 22 years of marriage, Frank died.

On May 3, 2002 Teola married Norman Halvorson. Quartzsite had been a big part of her life, she couldn’t bear not to go after Frank died. She met Norm where else? On the dance floor! They danced through 6 great years before losing Norm to cancer.

Teola loved nature, camping, gardening, playing golf, sewing and her family! She knew the value of hard work and thriftiness. She has been a great example of courage and integrity. Teola had many friends and was beloved by all of us.
