She dribbles, she shoots, she scores.
There's no doubt about it — She Hoops.
Girls in grades 4-8 are invited to join Portland Trail Blazers youth coaches for their She Hoops series, an all-girls, six-week experience presented by Nike. This series will be hosted at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rockwood on Wednesday evenings from Feb. 12-March 18 and is open to girls in grades 4-8. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Rockwood are located at 454 S.E. 165th Ave. in Portland.
Coaches will focus on introducing and building basketball fundamentals, engaging in active game play and helping girls build confidence while growing a love for the sport.
According to Portland Trail Blazers Youth Engagement Manager Genevieve Sheridan, this is not a traditional camp.
"We were motivated to start this camp when we learned that girls are twice more likely than boys to drop out of sports by the time they get to eighth grade," she said. "The main takeaway is that we are hoping to help these girls build confidence while playing basketball and help them grow a lifelong love for the game."
Throughout the six-week She Hoops series, the Trail Blazers will cover multiple topics via the Jr. NBA's "Her Time to Play" curriculum, including nutrition, diversity, harassment, stress management and family issues.
Campers will also receive product giveaways via the Trail Blazers' Nike sponsorship and interact with special guests.
All girls will receive a free ticket (included with registration) to attend the Blazers' Women in Sports Night Celebration on Thursday, March 12. They will also participate in special fan experiences including Courtside Kids and Anthem Buddies.
Cost for the entire six-week camp is $99. For more information or to register online go to nba.com/blazers/youthbasketball.
