Even people allergic to animals can live with them. There are solutions to successfully manage allergies so you can keep your beloved pets, including antihistamines, weekly grooming and air filters.

See a doctor and be tested to see what allergies you actually have. It may be pollen that Fluffy has on her fur after a walk and not your pet that is bothering you.

There are allergens in saliva, dander and fur. The fur and dander can stick to walls, clothing and carpeting. If your reaction is not life threatening, there are several things you can do.

Create an allergy free zone where your pet is not allowed, probably the bedroom, and get a high efficiency HEPA air cleaner. Also use impermeable mattress and pillow covers.

Get a HEPA air cleaner for the rest of your house and avoid dust and dander catching curtains and carpets.

Bathe your pet weekly to reduce dander. It's important to use pet specific shampoo, one that is specially formulated just for them. You can find these special shampoos at Nature's Pet Market. Just ask a knowledgeable staff member. Remember that a cat can become accustomed to being bathed.

Other treatments are allergy shots, nasal sprays and antihistamine pills. Make sure your allergist understands your commitment to your pet. A combination of medical control of symptoms, house cleaning methods and immunotherapy can be successful in allowing you to live with your pet.

At Nature's Pet Market we want to help you live successfully with your pet.
