The State Department has raised its global travel advisory to HYPERLINK "travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/ea/travel-advisory-alert-global-level-4-health-advisory-issue.html" Level 4, the highest it goes. The advisory warns Americans that they should not travel anywhere in the world because of disruptions caused by the global HYPERLINK "www.vox.com/2020/3/16/21181560/coronavirus-tips-symptoms-us-covid-19-testing-immunity-reinfection" coronavirus crisis. The order also advises US citizens who live in the US but are currently abroad to return home immediately, "unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period."
Airlines are letting customers postpone their flights for up to a year and some cruise lines are offering full refunds. Be sure to contact your cruise line for complete information. Many hotels will cancel your reservations, but you should call your lodging as soon as possible to cancel to avoid fees.
This is very disappointing as so many people have been planning trips for a long time or for an anniversary that will pass without a big celebration.
But the global pandemic will eventually pass and the travels deals will be amazing. Start thinking about where you would like to go once restrictions are lifted. Search online for ocean or river cruises. Fine tune your bucket list and put where you want to go most at the top.
Call friends and family and make plans to travel together, you have time to decide where to go and what to do when you get there. Eventually, we will be able to travel again.
