Months of staying at home are coming to a slow end and we are all itching to hit the road, even if it is just for a weekend getaway! We have not been putting many miles on our vehicles so plan before a trip to make sure your vehicle is checked for recalls and have regular maintenance performed along with a thorough inspection so it is in tip top shape for travel. Having a breakdown in the middle of travel is super unpleasant and it can usually be easily avoided.

We recommend checking the items below:

Check Battery, Alternator & Starter along with making sure all connections are free from corrosion

Check Belts for cracking, unusual wear or deep grooves

Check all exterior and interior lights

Check hoses for bulges, blisters, cracks, crunchy or super soft hoses

Check fluid levels of ALL fluids in the vehicle, especially the coolant

Check wiper blades to make sure they clear the windshield

Check air conditioning performance especially if you will be traveling in hot areas

Check floor mats and make sure they do not interfere with operation of accelerator or brake pedal

Check brakes for even wear and brake pad and/or shoe thickness

Flat or blown tires are the #1 reason for breakdowns on US Highways, so check for travel with 4/32 or more of tread depth and the age of your tires should not be beyond 6 years old.

Enjoy your summer and have a safe fun journey! It is time to make some positive memories with friends and family. Happy motoring!
