The Birthday Firetruck
Nine months ago, Brad Roe, a sales staff member from Weston Kia had the idea of drive by birthdays in the Weston Kia firetruck to cheer folks up during the pandemic. So, he posted it on the "Gresham Helping Gresham" Facebook group page and the rest is history. "I got 20 requests the first day," Roe recalls.
Roe and the Weston firetruck have made 164 drive by birthday appearances since then. One weekend, Roe says "I made seven drive byes on Saturday and seven on Sunday and drove 157 miles." Each trip takes two hours or more, but Roe enjoys it. "This is so satisfying for me," Roe says. He credits his father, who died 2 years ago with inspiring him to give back. "For 55 years I saw my dad giving back to the community. If I can do 1% of what has done, I will be happy."
Driving the 1954 Chevrolet firetruck is an adventure. "The truck has never had a fan, a heater or a radio," Roe says. "It doesn't have power steering or power brakes or seatbelts." He enjoys every trip. "Weston pays for the gas, the oil and servicing. It's just my time."
If you would like the Weston Firetruck for a drive by birthday, leave a message on the "Gresham Helping Gresham" Facebook group's page or at the Weston Kia dealership and Roe will get back to you.
Weston Kia is pleased to support Roe with the firetruck for drive by birthdays. Everyone wins at Weston.
