Dying without a Will – A Mess – A Stress Avoidable
"I will do it tomorrow." Our life is filled with best intentions unrealized, but this one takes a deeper consideration.
Leaving this life without a Will is a decision to leave the ones closest to you with a major mess to sort out and the stress that goes with it. Then the state, through the courts, decides who will represent the estate, the executor. And the state will decide who will manage your assets, who will receive your assets, who will take your children, and who will care for your animal companions. If no one steps up to take the role of the executor that job falls to the state.
All this takes time and is costly, whittling away benefits for someone or something. In an emergency, children can be traumatized being handed to temporary guardians they do not know or finding no one home waiting for them and not knowing what to do. Animal companions can be left uncared for. Assets are tied up so financial accounts lay in limbo, real estate cannot be sold, creditors amass interest on unpaid balances, and a spouse can do nothing until the court appoints them as executor, and assets still must be to their name. A mess.
