Of all the things we may have to think about in a given day, getting up and walking around may be something we take for granted. However, as we age, we become more prone to falls. They can come from a variety of factors – weakened muscles, worsening eyesight, underlying health issues and much more.

It's important to consider the risk factors that could impact you or your loved one's ability to stay safe. Falling is one of the most pressing risks seniors face to their health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over 25% of people age 65 and older fall each year. Furthermore, falling once doubles your chances of falling again.

At Prestige Senior Living Huntington Terrace, fall prevention is always top-of-mind. Studies show that regular exercise improves balance, muscle strength and flexibility; all reducing the risk of falling. To that end, we run our Energize Exercise program, featuring three levels:

• Activate: Stretch & Strength Class

• Invigorate: Strength & Balance Class

• Energize: Brain & Body Class

Our team can help guide you or your loved one into the program that best suits their needs and risk factors.

Make sure your senior's glasses have the correct RX. Some prescriptions may also affect your balance which can lead to a fall. Scheck with your senior's doctor to be sure. A simple thing like wearing shoes, not just socks can also have an impact on falling.

Contact Huntington Terrace if you have questions about how Prestige prevents falls.
