Brr! The last thing you want when it is cold outside is a furnace on the fritz. Check these five things below before you call the repairman

Check the Thermostat. Make sure that the system setting is in the heat mode and not still in the cooling mode and then turn the thermostat up to the desired temperature.

Check the batteries. If your thermostat has batteries, make sure that you change the batteries.

Is the power on? Make sure that there is power to the furnace. Check the breaker to make sure that it is on and was not accidently turned off in the off season. Further, if your furnace has a power switch next to it, check to see if it is turned on.

Have you changed the filters? Make sure that your air filters are changed or if the washable type, make sure that they are cleaned.

Is the door panel closed? If air filters are inside of the furnace, make sure that the door panel has been put on properly, as there is a safety door switch that breaks the high voltage when the door is off or not properly secured.

If you have tried all of the above and your furnace still does not operate, please give Honke Heating & Air Conditioning a call for service. And, if you are in the market for a new furnace, this is the best time of the year to get it replaced.
