Tune Up Your AC Now
Summer is still a way off, but with climate change we could have a very warm Spring, and the last thing you need is a broken A/C unit. Thankfully, doing some simple maintenance now can save you time and money later. Read on for six steps to keep your AC working:
Change your filters—Sometimes, the easiest step is also the most important. Dirty filters reduce your system's efficiency, costing you more in the long run.
Clear area around outdoor condenser—There needs to be at least 18" of clearance around outdoor condenser for correct air flow. Any debris or stored items need to be cleared out so that they are not sucked up against the outdoor coil.
Check the outdoor coil—Inspect the outdoor coil to see if there has been a collection of debris. If this is the case, you may need to have someone come out a clean the coil.
Check the air vents—Check to make sure that at least 90% of your supply air vents are open and that your return grills are not blocked.
Check the coolant line—The coolant pipes that connect your evaporator to the outdoor condenser are usually covered in some sort of foam insulation. You'll need to replace it if the insulation is torn or missing.
Thermostat batteries—If your thermostat is electronic and has batteries, this is a good time to change them.
Consider a tune-up—Honke's skilled service technicians can give your system a complete checkup to ensure an easy and breezy summer. Stay cool!
